I don’t remember exactly when Alyssa Cole shared the news that One of Us Knows was on its way – but I do remember being excited about soon being able to read another of her books. Alyssa is an auto 1-click author for me. I love her books; I don’t even need to read the blurb to convince me to buy her titles. As soon as it dropped into my Kindle, I started reading it and, yes, I’m hooked.
So what’s it about?
Kenetria “Ken” Nash has just taken on the role of the resident caretaker for historic Grace Castle on Kavanaugh Island, a remote island in the Hudson River.
After a breakdown and her dissociative identity disorder derail her career as a historical preservationist, Ken sees this as an unexpected chance to get back on her feet again.
She (and her alters) are cautious – especially since Della, the alter who agreed to the position, has disappeared.
With a storm on its way, the last thing Ken is expecting is to be trapped on the island with surprise visitors from the castle’s conservation trust – especially when one of them turns out to be the person who is the reason her life fell apart. When he turns up dead, Ken is the prime suspect.
So far, I’ve read roughly 40 percent of the book and it’s proving to be unputdownable. It’s creepy, it’s mind bending and it’s giving off The Shining vibes (which is one of my favourite books and movies).
UPDATE: I’ve finished reading One of Us Knows and it kept me riveted! My rating?
