Every year I set a goal for myself: start and finish NaNoWrimo. Some years are better than others. I succeeded in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The books that came out of it were Snowbound, Maybe Baby and Maybe Forever. The last two years I have not been able to finish on time due to work-related stress, illness and cases of everything that can go wrong…well, going wrong. At least I managed to get off to good starts with two WIPs (Under the Milky Way, which is on hold for now, and A Piece of My Heart, which I am still working on and hope to finish soon).
I’m pretty excited about starting NaNoWriMo this year, even though I haven’t really got a good outline yet and inspire of not finishing the last two years. Maybe it’s because I feel like, after a shitty 2016–and yes, it was insanely shitty–and a not-so-great start to 2017, things (for the most part) are okay. Sure, my day job is still not perfect, but what job is? At least, my team is awesome and that is what keeps me from going too crazy in the face of so much chaos. But enough about that…
I finally decided which book to work on for NaNoWriMo. Will work on a standalone in the Maybe… series called Maybe Now. We get to meet one of Mads’s and Henrik’s cousins, Ragnar, whom we met very briefly in Maybe Tomorrow. And we get to go to Matera, my home away from home. Here’s the synopsis and a mockup of the cover (only using this one for NaNoWriMo).
Blame it on the heat?
Michaela is not the sort of woman who does one-night stands with strangers. It’s on her list of things she never does–and it’s a long list. So how has she ended up in bed with a sexy Dane called Ragnar not once, but twice while in Copenhagen for a friend’s wedding?
Ragnar needs a change of scenery.
When his friend Pino offers him a rent-free studio and a place to stay in return for helping him renovate a house he’s inherited in Matera, Italy, Ragnar figures it’s the chance he needs to get his head straight again. The last person he expects to see…is Michaela.
Neither Michaela or Ragnar wants to be in a relationship right now, but maybe the magic of Matera will change their minds?
So that’s the story I will be working on and sharing this year. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll be sharing the unedited chapters here, on Wattpad or in both places. I may share everything on Facebook, but I will figure that out closer to the NaNoWriMo start date.
Over the next few days, I’ll be plotting, updating the Maybe Now inspiration board on Pinterest and blocking my calendar for November so that I have plenty of writing time to meet my daily word goals. I want this to be the year I am back on track with NaNoWriMo.
So what about you? Will you be working on a novel for NaNoWriMo?
